The votes are in, and Ben Shewry’s iconic Ripponlea eatery Attica has scored big at the 2018 World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony last night.

It’s the sixth year Attica has made it into the top 50, having landed at number 20 in this year’s awards. Shewry and his team have jumped an impressive 12 spots from last year’s list, where Attica placed 32nd.

Keen to try Attica for yourself? Check out our five-star review from when we visited late last year.

The 2018 awards were held in Bilbao, Spain. The top ten was an impressive who’s-who of the culinary industry, with the top spot taken out by Massimo Bottura’s humble Italian eatery, Osteria Francescana. Second place went to Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca, third to France's Mirazur and fourth to last year’s winner, New York’s Eleven Madison Park. See the rest of the list here.

Regional Victoria’s quiet champion Brae also placed well, having been crowned the 58th best restaurant in the world just last week.

Don’t have the cash to splash? We’ve collated cheap hacks for some of Melbourne’s fanciest eateries. And see where Attica placed on our own list of Melbourne’s 50 best restaurants (spoiler alert: it’s not number one!)
