After more than six months closed the mozzarella mavens at La Latteria are finally reopening.

Melbourne first mozzarella laboratory reopens Thursday February 1 with a new look but the same soft white mozzarella that put them on Melbourne’s cheese map.

Renovations to their Elgin Street store meant the Carlton store had to shut up shop in July last year but the wait has been worth it. La Latteria will now open seven days a week because this is Melbourne, damn it, and nothing should stop Melburnians from getting handmade artisanal cheese any day of the week!

As well as offering fresh cow and buffalo milk mozzarella (which naturally comes bobbing in brine) La Latteria is bringing back all their dairy delights including bocconcini, fior di latte, burrata, smoked scamorza and smoked caciocavallo. You can also pick up handmade yoghurt and fresh bottles of unhomogenised milk (with the cream on top just like in the old days).

Dig out your cooler bags: La Latteria reopens at 104 Elgin Street, Carlton on Thursday February 1.
