Melbourne, you sure are surfing a perfect wave of awesome eating and drinking additions to the city right now, and the trend is set to continue because the team from Bar Liberty are opening a second venue.

They’ve taken over the Beaufort, an old pub in Carlton, to open Capitano, an Italian, Aussie and gently American dining room with pizzas in the oven and pasta on plates. There’s talk of a lasagne that’s big enough to share, and dry-aged steaks. Basically it’s all the food you want to eat most days of the week. And you bet your Amari that the soundtrack is going to be 70’s/80’s new wave Italo-disco.

The crew is the awesome foursome behind Bar Liberty. Casey Wall and Manu Potoi (Rockwell and Sons), and Banjo Harris Plane and Michael Bascetta. Capitano’s head chef  will be Blake Giblet (Movida, Cumulus Inc)

You’d expect nothing less than a killer drinks list from this team, so prime yourself for bitter aperitivos and juicy Italian varietals. If you’re thirsty, not hungry, you are welcome to perch at the hardwood bar that bisects the room, and if you need to get home, they also plan to do takeaway pizza for locals.

Capitano opens Wed Aug 15.

Need a drink before then? One of Melbourne’s 50 best bars will sort you out.
