The piers of Victoria are having a moment. The iconic Station Pier has just reopened to the public for the first time since 2020, St Kilda Pier has scored a huge new elevated platform for viewing the adorable penguin colony that call it home, and now, the Mornington Peninsula’s beloved Dromana Pier is getting a major glow-up – with construction now underway.

Announced by Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne, the rebuild marks the latest project in the Victorian Government’s $46 million investment into Victoria’s piers and jetties – and it promises to make the already-popular seaside spot even more inviting.

The upgrades will include a new solid timber deck and a terraced area designed for soaking up sweeping views of the Dromana foreshore, Port Phillip Bay and Arthurs Seat. For swimmers, a new set of stairs will make dipping into the water easier than ever, while an extended ramp will ensure the pier remains accessible to everyone.

The refreshed design has been shaped by the local community, ensuring the finished space feels true to Dromana’s coastal character. Once complete – in time for summer next year – the new pier will offer a more welcoming and functional hub for fishing, boating, walking and swimming.

“Rebuilding Dromana Pier will ensure the local community and visitors have improved access to a popular space for fishing, walking, boating and swimming,” said Minister Horne. “This upgrade will mean the pier will be enjoyed well into the future and will bring even more tourism into this beautiful seaside suburb.”

During construction, the neighbouring George Bishop Reserve carpark will be closed, with alternative parking available at Dromana Foreshore Reserve and along Point Nepean Road. The adjoining beach area will also be fenced off to keep the site safe while works are underway.

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said the upgrades will celebrate what makes Dromana special: “Once complete, the new Dromana Pier’s solid timber decking will enhance its coastal charm and the new terraced area will provide a space for enjoying the local foreshore and surrounding views.”
