It’s the race that stops the nation and this is the food that fuels it.

While it looks like we won't be celebrating the Melbourne Cup or other racing events as we usually do, it's great to see many Melbourne venues are dishing out festival packs for us to enjoy at home. We’ve compiled a list of some of Melbourne’s best Spring Racing Carnival food options for you to enjoy on Derby Day, Melbourne Cup, Oaks Day or Stakes Day.

Earl Canteen is serious about grazing. So serious that its Spring Carnival Celebration Hamper comes with a variety of snackable options like prosciutto-wrapped Koo Wee Rup asparagus, Tassie salmon, dill and preserved lemon rillettes with herb croutons, heirloom tomato, fior di latte and basil salad, strawberry and vanilla bean panna cottas plus more. Much, much more.

It’s served on eco-friendly platters and can feed six people for $170. Add on an extra $30 to get a bottle of Grenache Rosé, too. They require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice and you can order yours here.

You’ve heard of sweet cannoli, but have you ever tried savoury cannoli? Cannoleria by That’s Amore Cheese has launched its first-ever savoury cannoli as part of its new Spring Carnival DIY Picnic Kit.

Sample smoked salmon and dill whipped ricotta piped into cannoli, topped with Yarra Valley caviar. The Picnic Kit for two also includes sweet cannoli with Cannoleria’s signature traditional Sicilian ricotta and pistachio and two piccolo bottles of prosecco. It’s all DIY so you can pipe it all at home in preparation for the races. Order yours for $60 by October 26 to receive your order prior to Derby Day (October 31) via the online store.

The team at Vue de Monde have been busy with their takeaway concept Vue to You. They’ve recently partnered with Vue Events to bring the experience of the races home to you. Let them cater your entire race day with the Vue Trifecta, or choose from the Sweets Box, Grazing Box or Breakfast Box.

Try Vue de Monde’s mousse-like lamingtons at home, or a range of charcuterie, Burnham Bakery pastries or sweet tarts depending on the box you choose. Boxes start at $70 and can be pre-ordered by midnight October 28 via the website. Don’t forget to choose your race day either and mention it in the notes.
