The brown and yellow ’burb (go the Hawks!) to the east of the CBD still bears evidence of the Gold Rush days of the 1860s in the grand architecture scattered about. Shoppers and diners flock to Glenferrie Road and its surrounds. There’s no excuse not to, really – Hawthorn is serviced by three railway stations (Hawthorn, Glenferrie, Auburn) and six tram routes (16, 48, 70, 72, 75, 109).
