Topping our list of the best things to do this season is a trip to Governors Island, the perfect spot for a family day trip, picnic and bike ride in the beautiful weather (be sure to check out our Governors Island, NY guide for the best day trip ideas). Did you know that Governors Island will be opening a whole month early this year? We are so excited! Imagine the fun to be had with so much extra time! In 2017, Governors Island will be open from May 1 through October 1.
The early opening also facilitates something else that's super cool, too. The folks at Play:ground NYC reached out to let us know that Play:ground, NYC's first imagination playground built entirely from found materials, will also open early on May 6 and will offer free weekend play hours throughout the summer. Don't forget to make a side trip to Slide Hill, which also opened last year...because hello, slides.
