The outdoor experts at Hipcamp have revealed Australia’s most magical camping spots – with NSW gems scoring first and second place in the top 10

The term ‘romantic getaway’ often conjures up images of luxe secluded lodges, candlelit dinners and plush king sized beds scattered with rose petals. But if you ask us, real romance doesn’t require a private butler or a high-spec hot tub.
There’s something undeniably romantic about escaping to the middle of nowhere with your loved one/s, and camping – or glamping if you still want a touch of luxury – is the best way to do just that.
If you’re keen to celebrate V Day under the stars, we’ve got some last-minute inspo to make it magical. The world’s #1 camping app, Hipcamp, analysed more than 160,000 campsite reviews in Australia to uncover the most romantic places to spend a night beneath the stars. Highly-rated sites earned five bonus points if reviews included keywords like ‘anniversary’, ‘honeymoon’, ‘proposal’ and ‘romantic’. Two points were awarded for mentions of comfort, privacy or amenities, such as ‘cosy’, ‘hot tub’ and ‘adults only’. Finally, one bonus point was given for ambience, like ‘stargazing’ and ‘sunset’ – and according to Hipcamp, the most romantic camping spot in Australia is right here in NSW.
Located halfway between Sydney and Canberra, Lyrebirds Nest tops the list of Australia’s most romantic getaways for camping and glamping. This peaceful bush escape is surrounded by forest, offering guests the option to glamp in a cosy cottage or camp by the lake. With an open fire, sauna, a jetty, an olive grove and an orchard, it’s got romance written all over it.
Bajimba Eco Camp in NSW’s Northern Tablelands was the second-highest-ranked romantic camping getaway in Australia, offering DIY campsites and elevated canvas bell tents. A steam sauna and woodfired hot tubs take the romance to the next level.
The third and final NSW spot to make the list was Crystal Creek Rainforest Treehouse – a magical cabin hiding in the hinterland behind Byron Bay.
Three of Australia's ten most romantic camping and glamping spots were in Tasmania, including a boho beach retreat near the Bay of Fires, a rustic cabin in the Fingal Valley and a creekside campsite with a woodfired hot tub.
Up in Queensland, lovebirds can pick from an off-grid hinterland cabin, a casual riverside campground, a stargazer’s tiny home and a luxe glamping tent with views of the Glasshouse Mountains. Send this to your loved one as a subtle hint!
