From a stunning suburban street on the South Coast to a gold rush-era heritage gem, these adorable roads around NSW will stop you in your tracks

If you ask us, NSW is one of the most beautiful places on Earth – but when you picture our prettiest spots, golden beaches, magical pockets of hinterland and rugged stretches of red outback usually come to mind. Take a closer look at our cities and country towns, however, and you’ll find streetscapes that look like a real-life postcard. From purple-draped jacaranda canopies to historic sandstone precincts and ocean-facing boulevards, here are eight of the most beautiful streets in NSW you need to wander at least once.
Just two hours from Sydney, this South Coast residential road is a social media sensation – and for good reason. As you roll down the hill, you’re greeted with sweeping views of emerald-green pastures dropping straight off dramatic sea cliffs into the Pacific Ocean.
Located right on the fringes of Sydney Harbour, this lower North Shore street is the ultimate spring destination as its vibrant jacarandas spring to life. When they reach full bloom in October and November, the trees reach out for their neighbours, creating a flowering arch and a fairytale scene on the street below.
Lined with beautifully preserved 19th-century storefronts, historic timber verandas and leafy deciduous trees, Berry’s main drag offers textbook country-town charm. It's beating heart, Queen Street is packed with cute cafes, boutique homeware shops, and relaxed pubs to explore at your own pace. That being said, some of Berry's real gems are just off the main drag – South on Albany and Berry General Store are our must-visits in the area.
Framed by towering plane trees and lined with heritage shopfronts, Leura Mall is the picture of Blue Mountains village charm. The main street is dotted with cosy cafes, old-school bakeries, boutiques and antique shops, making it an easy place to spend a slow morning before heading out on a nearby hike.
Just in-land from Byron Bay, Bangalow has had something of a foodie renaissance over the past few years, but even if you’re not lucky enough to be dining at Ciao Mate or You Beauty, this picture-perfect town is still worth a visit. With its heritage shopfronts, wide pavements and shady trees, Byron Street is the sort of country-town main street that begs you to slow down – with a solid mix of independent boutiques, galleries, cafes and pubs hiding behind colourful verandahs.
Running through the historic gold-mining village of Hill End, Beyers Avenue feels like a little time capsule. Surrounded by weathered timber buildings, old verandas and remnants of the town’s gold-rush past, this unassuming street serves up a special glimpse into one of NSW’s most historic towns.
Winding its way through the heart of Kangaroo Valley, Moss Vale Road is less about a perfectly preserved main street and more about the scenery that surrounds it. The rows of charming country buildings that line the street are framed by magical rolling green hills and dramatic sandstone escarpments, with the river bubbling away below you and the historic Hampden bridge serving as a grand entry-way into town.
With its brightly painted timber buildings, ornate verandas and beautifully preserved heritage shopfronts, Bate Street is one of the NSW South Coast’s most charming little main streets. Wander between the old-fashioned stores and cafés, all backed by rolling green hills and a gorgeously nostalgic country-town vibe.
