If you’re looking for an accessible, starter pack-style multi-day hike that still serves up serious wow-factor, the Blue Mountains’ Grand Cliff Top Walk has got you. One of the NSW Great Walks, this relatively new trail stitches together a solid handful of Blue Mountains highlights – waterfalls, lookouts, and story-rich Country – without demanding expedition-level effort. Clocking in at a manageable distance and passing straight through café-lined villages, it’s basically bushwalking with a very civilised safety net. Consider it the Blue Mountains’ highlight reel, best enjoyed over two perfectly paced, impossibly scenic days.

Where is the Grand Cliff Top Walk?

Set within Blue Mountains National Park, the walk runs along the escarpment on Gundungurra Country, linking the villages of Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba. It starts at Wentworth Falls and finishes at Katoomba – tracing the edge of the Jamison Valley the whole way.

How long is the Grand Cliff Top Walk?

It’s a 19-kilometre one-way track, typically tackled over two days (though ambitious types can knock it over in one very big day).

What can you see on the Grand Cliff Top Walk?

Short answer: a greatest-hits compilation of the Blue Mountains. Longer answer: expect cinematic cliff-edge views across the Jamison Valley, a parade of waterfalls (including Wentworth Falls, Gordon Falls and Leura Cascades), and a steady stream of lookouts that’ll have your camera roll working overtime. You’ll pass rainforest pockets, sandstone tracks and heritage trails, plus cultural landmarks like the Three Sisters. Keep an ear out for lyrebirds and yellow-tailed black cockatoos – the unofficial soundtrack of the walk.

Where can you stay near the Grand Cliff Top Walk?

This is where the walk really flexes its beginner-friendly credentials. Instead of lugging camping gear, you can bed down in the villages along the route – particularly in Leura (a natural halfway stop), or at either end in Wentworth Falls or Katoomba. Expect everything from cosy guesthouses to boutique hotels, plus plenty of pubs and cafés to refuel between sections – if you’re looking for inspo, these are our favourite stays in the Blue Mountains.

How do you get to the Grand Cliff Top Walk?

It’s as easy as hopping on a train. The walk is well connected by the Blue Mountains Line, with stations at Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba – meaning you can start and finish without a car. Driving is also straightforward: it’s roughly a 1.5-2 hour trip from Sydney to Wentworth Falls. You can find out more about this one and the other NSW Great Walks over here.
