Deck out your Christmas fridge and table with brandy-soaked puddings, hocks of ham and fresh seafood from one of Sydney's favourite farmers' markets
Carriageworks Farmers Markets are throwing an exceptionally festive Saturday morning market just three days before Christmas. It runs at the usual market times of 8am-1pm, but there’ll be festive additions of evergreen trees, Christmas hams, puddings and brandy-soaked fruit cake for sale.
With 21 new stalls added to the famously delicious line up, there’ll be more than 120 producers and providores on the day. And if all you want for Christmas is a taste of Quay’s famous snow egg, then this special edition of the markets might just grant your wish. Quay and Bennelong are giving some of their top chefs a morning off from food prep so they can showcase the exquisite offerings of both fine dining restaurants at Carriageworks.
Once you’ve checked out the extra fancy pants corner, browse stalls including set ups from Continental Deli Bar Bistro, Flour and Stone, Cornersmith, Eat Me Chutney, Holbrook Paddock Eggs, Mayfarm Flowers, and the German Christmas Shop. You’ll be able to pick up seasonal fruits including cherries, mangoes, nectarines and peaches from Kurrawong Organics and Drive in Orchards; fresh seafood from Fish Butchery and oysters from Southern Oyster Providores; and Christmas puddings, gluten free mince tarts and gingerbread from Kitchen Green.
You can grab a few final gifts from stalls selling food-related presents like ceramics, aprons and cookbooks, as well as a last-minute tree to whack them under at home. Plus, there’ll be booze stalls from bars and distilleries including Archie Rose, the Grifter Brewing Co, Eloquesta Wines and Demoiselle Distillery to keep your Christmas enthusiasm from waning.
Don’t worry, the usual Saturday morning stallholders will be there too – including Billy Kwong’s famous Chinese pancakes and steamy soup swimming pools from Bar Pho.
