The biggest awards show of the year, the Oscars, honoured the best of 2019’s filmmaking last night in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. Unfolding for over three hours, the annual ceremony offered up plenty of hilarious and special moments. And we couldn’t let the event go by without singling out some of our favourite happenings of the night, as well as a list of all the winners – most notably, Parasite made history for Asians by being the first non-English language film for best picture. Hongkongers, in case you missed it, you can catch the Oscars on TVB’s Pearl tonight at 9pm!

Oscars 2020 - Viral Moments

Natalie Portman fighting patriarchy with fashion

Natalie Portman, our queen, threw shade at the Academy by wearing a Dior cape embroidered with the names of female directors who were snubbed for this year’s Oscars. All five Best Director nominees this year are men.

Keanu Reeves and Diane Keaton’s adorable flirtation

It's been 16 years since the 55-year-old actor locked lips with the 74-year-old actress in Nancy Meyers' rom-com, but their chemistry is still going on strong. “You know, it's been a long time since you and I made that movie, that movie Something's Gotta Give. Remember me in it?” Keaton asked onstage. Reeves gushed, “Yeah, you were amazing” before Keaton replied, “You were amazing!” Awww… how cute.

Eminem’s surprise performance

Eminem surprised everyone with a performance of Lose Yourself, the 2003 Academy Award winner for Best Original Song. The audience looked baffled in the beginning but still gave him a standing ovation. It took him 18 years to sing it on that stage, but it was well worth it.

Timothee Chalamet looking like a chic mechanic

The 24-year-old actor Timothee Chalamet showed up to the ceremony sporting a tracksuit-esque ensemble in a navy Prada zip-up over a white shirt and tie along with matching jogging pants. With his slicked-back hair and sporty outfit, he looked like he wandered in from the set of Ford v Ferrari, or just came from restoring his pickup truck.

Director Bong Joon Ho’s pure joy

Parasite winning four different awards at the Oscars is an amazing historic feat, but the genuine smile on Director Bong Joon-ho’s face as he gazed joyfully at his Oscar statuette in the background silently freaking out was pure gold. We also loved it when Director Bong declared, “I’m ready to drink tonight.” First round on us, Director. Well deserved.
