Wan Chai is getting a new Italian-style café this August, and despite what the name suggests, it’s strictly a pastry arrangement.

The brainchild of award-winning pastry chef Fabio Bardi, Sugar Daddy is a playful Italian pastry, gelato, and café concept all combined into one. Bardi, who was named Best Pastry Chef at the 2024 Tatler Dining Awards, has spent years clocking in at top-tier kitchens across London, Paris, New York, as well as well-known Hong Kong establishments like the three-Michelin-starred 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Estro, and Dang Wen Li by Dominique Ansel. Most recently, he lent his expertise to shaping the pastry programme at Tozzo before stepping away to bring his own vision to life.

The new neighbourhood spot is all about bringing a fresh interpretation of Italy’s pastry traditions to the city. Guests can expect classics like cornetti, piccola pasticceria, and freshly made gelato, along with Bardi’s signature maritozzi – a sweet Roman brioche bun stuffed with an ungodly amount of cream. Pair one of these treats with a cup of their premium Italian coffee and you’ve got the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

With the philosophy of ‘balanced indulgence’ in mind, the kitchen will focus on lower-sugar recipes, natural ingredients, and zero artificial additives. Items are made fresh every single day, and to ensure no one misses out on the goods, there will also be a selection of vegan, sugar-free, and dairy-free options.

Exact details regarding the official opening date and operating hours are not yet confirmed, but you’ll find Sugar Daddy on the ground floor of Fu Tung Building in Wan Chai come August. Keep tabs on their Instagram (@cafesugardaddyhk) for more updates coming soon.
