If you only do one thing at WestK this weekend, make sure it’s a visit to this brilliant interactive playground

One of the most talked-about exhibitions of 2026 is finally here in Hong Kong! Running from June 27 to January 10 next year at M+, ‘Design Ah! Experience the Wonder of Everyday Design’ is an interactive exhibition based on the hugely popular ‘Design Ah! neo’ exhibition from Japan. Adapted with unique local twists, the Hong Kong showcase explores design and its role in our everyday actions like walking, eating, and sitting, giving the spotlight to seemingly mundane objects we may often overlook.
While the gallery space itself is on the smaller side, they’ve managed to pack a great deal of creativity into the room. From the signature ‘Ah’ installation greeting visitors at the entrance to a pair of giant chopsticks holding a siu mai, there are 21 stations playfully themed around 10 various daily actions.
You can start by attempting to throw rubbish bags into a bin attached to the ceiling (which is a lot more difficult than it sounds!), or test your steady hands on a buzz wire game where if you trigger the maze, a highly distracting “Ah!” sound will almost certainly make you lose your concentration. There are also other stations where you can break and rebuild a vase, customise iconic Hong Kong dishes on screen, or simply look at a wall covered in hundreds of miscellaneous handles.
Arguably the main highlight of the exhibition is the viral ‘Do it!’ game inside the immersive screen room. Voiced by the legendary Wan Kwong, it’s an interactive screening where you make specific hand gestures like pointing and twisting to a steady beat. Get your rhythm right and your movements will perfectly sync to rapid clips of everyday actions like pressing buttons or turning the shower on.
Once you have completed the circuit, do check out the exclusive Design Ah! merchandise. The collection includes colourful lifestyle pieces such as baseball caps, tote bags, rugs, socks, and many more. There’ll also be gashapon machines where you can get yourself a ‘sound-clicky’ keychain that treats you to a satisfying click and a range of different ‘Ah!’ sounds when pressed. Launching alongside the collection is the ‘Very Hong Kong’ series, featuring blind box plush charms in the form of five cultural icons – the traditional siu mai, a retro piggy bank, the festive lion dance, the quintessential mahjong, and the nostalgic FEHD mascot ‘Lap Sap Chung’.
General admission tickets are $190 for adults and $100 for concessions, though combo tickets for families are also available starting from $250. If you visit between June 27 and July 5, you can also claim a free serving of siu mai at Nodi on the B1 floor. To see the city’s quirks in a completely new light, grab your tickets now via the M+ website.
