We've all heard the legends of Kowloon Walled City, but few truly knew what life was like inside the semi-lawless neighbourhood. That's exactly why Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In struck such a chord with audiences, so much so that it dominated the 43rd HK Film Awards by taking home nine trophies out of its 14 nominations.

The film's success continued as a large-scale movie set exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Airport and Airside mall, showcasing the incredible details and efforts that went into creating the movie sets. And now, it's all coming full circle. Returning to the original site that inspired it all, the exhibition allows visitors to step back into the 1980s, explore meticulously recreated shops and scenes, and immersive themselves in the infamous Walled City.

Highlights of the Kowloon Walled City exhibition

The whole exhibition is divided into eight 'rooms'. At the entrance, visitors will be greeted with a large hand-painted ceremonial flower board and an iron honorific arch that says 'Kowloon Walled City', referencing the design of the shutter gates in the 1980s.

Walk past the traditional flower board, and you'll be instantly thrown back in time, where you can explore iconic scenes and sets from the film, including the No.7 Restaurant, barbershop, a dental clinic, grocery store, a bone-setting clinic, and more.

There are also some newly introduced movie sets, such as the football factory, plastic-moulding workshop, as well as the 'Rooftop of Light and Shadow in the Walled City' projection room.

Scurry down the narrow 'alleys' and turn to a small projection room designed to recreate a typical rooftop of the former Walled City. Visitors will be able to sit on bamboo chairs while gazing at the city lights as it changes from day to night, accompanied by the roaring sound of low-flying planes over the neighbourhood.

How to get to Kowloon Walled City Park
