Time Out says

Celebrating two decades of Taxi Kitchen, head chef Tony Twitchett reunites with fellow respected chef Michael Lambie for an evening of food, wine and friendship

Those of us over the age of 30 may remember that back in 2004 Taxi Kitchen was known as Taxi Dining Room – a somewhat fancier affair than its current iteration. Amid the perpetual hubbub of Transport Bar and with glittering views over the Yarra River and Arts Centre spire, Taxi was at the heart of it all.

Chefs Tony Twitchett and Michael Lambie quickly made a name for themselves, earning two hats in The Age Good Food Guide and garnering as much recognition for their food as the restaurant's quirky Sputnik light fitting and central slice of real estate. One of our own reviewers even gave it her tick of approval in 2015.

And while their project may have undergone several facelifts since its inception, plenty of reasons to celebrate Taxi Kitchen's rich history abound. So what better time than the Fed Square restaurant's 20th birthday to do just that? It makes sense that Lambie, the man partly responsible for Taxi's early rise to fame, has returned to work his magic. Twitchett has also come to the party, in a celebration that will take the form of a nostalgic dinner event available to the public.

The menu will feature nine beloved dishes pulled straight from the archives, with Twitchett and Lambie working together to prepare five thoughtful courses, each paired with wines, for $175 per head. Guests will be free to mingle with some of the early players of Melbourne's hospo scene and get a taste of why Taxi has turned heads over the years.

From classic entrees lauded in Taxi’s history books to signature desserts, each dish will be matched with great wine and plenty of stories to tide the evening by. Whether it’s been a while since you’ve dined at Fed Square or it’s your first ever visit, Taxi’s anniversary dinner is a prime opportunity to make the most of it. Reserve a table here.
