New Yorkers usually go all out for St. Patrick's Day, but this year is set to look a lot different.

Epic parties and events promising live music and Irish fare may be on hold this year, but  the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade which usually brings Irish pride to the strets of Manhattan, passing venerable New York attractions, including the beautiful St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue may still be taking place on a much, much smaller scale.

This year, St. Patrick’s Day falls on a weekday — Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

What is St. Patrick’s Day in NYC?

St. Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17, the date marked by the death of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s most celebrated patron saint. The festivities surrounding this date specifically commemorate Saint Patrick, and the subsequent arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

Where is the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade?

The Parade usually starts at 11am at 44th Street, marching up Fifth Avenue—past St. Patrick's Cathedral at 50th Street—all the way to 79th Street and finishes around 5:00pm at the American Irish Historical Society at East 80th Street. In 2020, the parade was one of the first major city events to be cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, a smaller version of the of event may take place but details have yet to be announced.
