Sydney’s hotel scene has no shortage of heavy hitters, but one CBD stay has just collected a title that puts it in a league of its own. One of Syd’s most classically grand hotels, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney has been awarded Condé Nast Traveler’s newly minted “Triple Crown” accolade – a big-deal honour reserved for hotels that have landed a spot across all three of the publication’s most influential lists: the Hot List, Gold List and Readers’ Choice Awards. In other words? It’s not just critics who love it, and it’s not just guests – it’s both, consistently, over time. Not bad for a building that started life as a post office.
Set within that grand sandstone landmark at No. 1 Martin Place, The Fullerton has spent the past few years carving out a reputation as one of the city’s most beloves places to stay. A few weeks ago, as I sat in the lobby enjoying one of their signature drinks (the Sydney Sling – an Aussie take on the cocktail that made xxx famous), the team told me that they’re pretty much always at full-capacity, and it checked out based on the buzz of the towering central foyer.
Since opening in 2019, it’s drawn a steady stream of both international and local travellers with its particular blend of old-world drama and modern luxury – soaring heritage architecture, cavernous corridors and just enough modern gloss to make it feel like a proper escape rather than a history lesson (though you can book in for those, too).
The “Triple Crown” itself draws on three decades of Condé Nast Traveler editorial history, spotlighting a tightly curated group of hotels that have managed to impress across the board. It’s a rare trifecta, and the numbers back it up, too. In 2025, the hotel ranked sixth in Australasia in the Condé Nast Traveler UK Readers’ Choice Awards, and ninth across Australia and New Zealand in the US edition of the same awards. For General Manager John O’Shea, the recognition is as much about the people behind the scenes as it is about the property itself, pointing to the team’s focus on delivering memorable guest experiences while honouring the building’s heritage bones.
