And just like that, the borders are open. After nearly two years of stringent travel restrictions, the USA will finally allow in travelers from the UK, the EU, China, India and South Africa. For those who have family in the US, that means that long-awaited reunion is finally back on the cards. And for everyone else, that means vacations are allowed again – just in time for Christmas.

3. L.A. has a brand-new monument to motion-picture history

After a couple of false starts, the Academy – of Oscars-hosting fame – has finally opened its Museum of Motion Pictures. Across its six floors of galleries, film fans can find memorabilia including Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz or Jack Nicholson’s corduroy jacket from The Shining. Want another reason to go? It’s currently hosting a huge Hayao Miyazaki retrospective.

The just-opened Ambiente is North America’s first ‘landscape hotel’: a modern work of hospitality and art that aims to honor the land’s unique natural features with long-term sustainability in mind.
