The hottest fashion trends this summer

Sun visors

The UV rays come summertime can be unforgiving, making hats a must-have accessory. But floppy straw hats and baseball caps are so five years ago. Sun visors are where it’s at now. Our favourite this season is the Dior Club 1 Visor. The French fashion house’s modern take on the traditional sun visor, this trendy hat comes with a yellow-tinted visor lens and a monochrome designer-stamped band. Talk about sporty-chic.

Simple swimsuits

  • Tsim Sha Tsui

A vacay or a junk party is only as good as the Instagrams you post. So if you’re prepping for a tropical trip or a visit to the beach, a standout swimsuit is mandatory. Swimwear styles this season are all about ruffles and an otherwise minimalist approach, much like this H&M padded triangle bikini top. The frills on the front and straps provide an added texture to the otherwise simple bikini top without being ostentatious. Rock it as a regular top if you’re daring.

Crayon-coloured shoes

Bright primary colours are all the rage these days but if they’re too flashy for you – and those crayon colours are pretty bold – try starting with footwear. Pedro García x Temperley London’s lace-up platform sandals are a perfect starting point. These striking red ribbon sandals bring out the bohemian in you while the colour elevates any casual outfit.

Bum bags

These 90s bad boys are making a comeback – in part thanks to a certain memetastic photo of The Rock – and are perfect during hot weather as they free up your hands to well, wipe the sweat threatening your forehead. Bum bags come in all sorts of shapes and styles these days with fabrics ranging from leather to nylon to cotton. There’s something to suit every personality type. Ray Beams for example, has unveiled a sleek, structured fanny pack that could work with a sporty outfit or a cute maxi skirt. Trust us on this.

Stripes are totally in this year, having been all over the major fashion shows. But because it’s summer, now is the time to chuck in some colour and really make your outfits pop. There’s no shortage of variety this season as brands and labels have been rolling out everything from diagonal and wavy stripes to minimalist and classy ones, including Topshop’s blue-striped flare trousers. The retro-vibe of bell bottoms paired with visually stimulating lines guarantee you’ll be the centre of attention.

Seasonal nail shades
  • Health and beauty

Nail art is just as important part as any other part of your wardrobe. This season, we’re seeing a lot of classic copper red tones, textural metallic hues and saffron yellow. Coincidentally, Japanese makeup brand Lunasol offers nail polish in all the trending colours. Time to show off your digits.
