Nice try, Tottenham; well played, Walthamstow – but our hearts still belong to SE15. We quizzed thousands of city-dwellers on their favourite hangouts to find the 50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world, and south London’s very own Peckham is among them.

Everybody has their favourite part of the city, and deciding on a winner wasn’t easy. But our feature (with a shortlist based on thousands of responses to our Time Out Index) saw Peckham crowned the best place in the capital for the second year running.

The south London stalwart bowled over locals and editors for the second year running thanks to institutions such as inimitable rooftop bar Frank’s Café, sprawling club venue-meets-art space CLF Art Café and the retro (and ludicrously cheap) cinema Peckhamplex, to name a few.

All this and much more catapulted Peckham to an enviable number 11 on our list of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world. It was pipped to the post by only a handful of uber-cool neighbourhoods like Arroios in Lisbon, Embajadores in Madrid and Shimokitazawa in Tokyo. Take a bow, Peckham: you’ve done London proud.

Check out the other 49 areas that made our 2019 list of the 50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world.
