From bacon chops and insanely rich black pudding to a steaming bowl of noodle soup with a fried egg floating on top, this is your bucket list of fry-ups in the city. And not an avocado in sight.

Aprés cooked breakfast £13.95

This Clerkenwell café is co-owned by a nutritionist, which means their Full English is both enormous and healthy. Featuring coconut oil, cavolo nero and genuinely nice gluten-free bread  – ordering this will probably be the most sensible thing you’ve done while hungover.

Covent Garden

Full English breakfast £15.75

Brunch at this Covent Garden brasserie is a London foodie rite of passage – think of the Full English as your initiation. Here, your standard fry up comes with with both home fries and fried bread. Yeah it’s spenny, but just think: fried bread.

This smart, Alsatian-themed (the area in Eastern France, not the dog) brasserie in Islington does a classic English breakfast with all the trimmings. Expect rich black pudding, crispy bacon, Cumberland sausage and oeufs served poached, scrambled or fried.

Every foodie and their dog knows this Heath-side boozer in Gospel Oak is the best gastropub in north London. The breakfast menu is short but sweet, and the The Full Bull is the star of the show. Expect quality back bacon, pork sausages and black pudding.

This buzzing hotel-cum-restaurant in Soho has real tattie scones on the menu to please the Scots, and the Full English breakfast feels equally patriotic. There’s also the option to order a slightly smaller version for £9 if you’ve over-indulged in our British national pastime the night before.

Take char-striped streaky bacon and serve it up alongside peppery Shropshire sausages, masala baked beans and hot buttered buns and you’re on your way to a perfect fusion of English and Indian breakfasts. Add some bottomless chai and the job’s a good’un.

Bethnal Green

Pellicci’s Full English, £7.60

Open since 1900, E Pellicci’s signature fry ups are vast plates of Cumberland sausage, eggs and bacon. Order the orange juice (freshly squeezed and served in a half-pint glass) and you’ll see why this caff’s attracted everyone from Steven Berkoff to the Kray twins.

Venue says A classic east London café serving the local community for over a century.

Beloved by pram-pushers everywhere, the fry up at this okely-dokely Crouch End café is under a tenner (tick) and comes with a big homemade hash brown (big tick). Order before 10am to get free tea – it’s served in dinky china cups.
