It's no surprise that Melbourne is obsessed with Italian food. We're a sister city to Milan, we're home to the restaurant that judged several years in a row to make the world's best pizza, and Italians make up the second-largest ethnic group in greater Melbourne. So it's only natural that we have an affinity for carbs, continental-style.

In 1995, the World Pasta Congress – er, can we join? – introduced World Pasta Day to celebrate the global passion for silky, saucy spaghetti, ravishing ragu, luscious slabs of lasagne and every other shape that comes under the pasta umbrella.

This year, it will be held on Wednesday, October 25. Here's our round-up of eats, deals and fun activities you can do in Melbourne on the day to celebrate.

Want more? We've rounded up the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne. If you're only scouting for a perfect slice of 'za, check out this pizza guide instead.

Ever wanted to try your hand at making your own pasta from scratch? Internationally acclaimed head chef and owner of 400 Gradi, Johnny Di Francesco, is hosting a masterclass in honour of World Pasta Day teaching you how to do exactly that.
