Visionary artist and Pasadena native James Turrell started his career looking to transform light into the subject of art, rather than just a way to illuminate other things. The results have proven a unique perceptual experience for viewers that challenges the essence of how they see. In this retrospective of his work—the first in nearly 30 years—see 50 of his pieces. Get lost in the collection of early light projections, holograms and immersive light installations, as well as a peek at his current project, the Roden Crater, to be set in Flagstaff.

Enjoy top quality jazz under the stars as part of Hollywood Bowl’s stellar Jazz at the Bowl summer lineup. Every Wednesday, attendees at the legendary venue will listen to concerts that span the genre, including the iconic (Herbie Hancock), regional (Dr. John’s New Orleans cool), unexpected (Queen Latifah singing, Steve Martin playing the banjo!) and everything in between, with fantastic instrumentation and lovely vocals. Do the classy night right by bringing along some picnic food and wine.
