As the death toll of Nepal’s devastating flash floods in late August rises to over 1,300, with around 5,000 people still missing, eight of Hong Kong’s culinary and hospitality talents are coming together to raise urgent funds for those displaced and affected by the disaster.
The Nepali community have long been an important part of our local restaurant and bar scene, offering an affable warmth and friendly dedication to their hospitality. We love that Hong Kong’s food community is now gathering in strength to return that generosity during their time of crisis.
All of the proceeds from this 16-hands meal go directly to the Hong Kong Red Cross’ Nepal flash floods emergency appeal, which provides immediate relief to those in need, as well as supporting long-time recovery efforts. Apart from the three-Michelin-starred French fine-dining institution Amber, participating restaurants include the Mandarin Grill + Bar; Always Joy seasonal izakaya; the two-Michelin-starred Cristal Room by Anne-Sophie Pic; Leela; Torikaze; and Yong Fu Hong Kong. Each chef from these restaurants will contribute a signature course to the event menu, alongside bespoke bites and petit fours.
Some sample dishes to look forward to include line-caught Kinki with carabineros and yuzu koshō stuffed salt-tomato; stuffed three yellow chicken wings with matsutake and winter truffles; and Wagyu beef Ash e Bawardi. Lastly, tea-based cocktail bar Tell Camellia, founded by the award-winning Hong Kong-based Nepali bartender Gagan Gurung, will also complement the menu with their inventive cocktails.
The 16-hands charity lunch will take place in Amber at Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, on Saturday, September 13. The meal is priced at $4,488 per guest – again, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Nepal flash flood relief efforts by the Hong Kong Red Cross. Reserve your spot here.
