Despite what we'll call misconceptions that Halloween is the scariest date on the calendar, we argue that there is a lot of joy to be had on October 31. It's basically an excuse for free candy (uh, lollies), epic parties, cult-classic films on repeat and the excuse to bust out those costumes that you accidentally spent a small fortune on.

The spirit of All Hallow's Eve may not have been so giving this year with Halloween falling on a Tuesday, but never fear (or fear a lot), because Sydney is putting on a scary show all weekend. Saddle up for a hellishly delightful Halloween with our guide to freaky events and frightful places to explore.

You can get into the spooky spirit by picking up a period frock from Sydney's best op shops, or deck out your pad with furniture that's full of history from these antique stores. Too much horror? Find less frightful things to do in October.
