To celebrate the 29th anniversary of the HKSAR establishment, the government has teamed up with various venues, transport operators, and businesses across the city to offer a wide array of holiday perks. Since the public holiday lands smack in the middle of the week on a Wednesday, it's the absolute perfect excuse to break up the grind and explore the city on a budget. Whether you want to hop across the harbour for zero dollars, check out a world-class museum exhibition, or score big discounts at your favourite local restaurants, here's your ultimate guide to hacking the holiday.

Free offers on July 1 in Hong Kong

Free MTR services on July 1

To help everyone make the most of the public holiday, the MTR will be giving away 71,000 free domestic rides through a huge lucky draw on the MTR mobile app from 9am to 6pm on July 1.

Families heading on holiday will also be able to enjoy some special discounts on the Airport Express. From July 1 to August 31, kids aged 3 to 11 will be able to catch free rides going to and from the airport. Students will get 50 percent off during the same period, while JoyYou card holders (seniors aged 60 or above) can enjoy half-price fares all the way through to June 30, 2027.

Free tram rides around Hong Kong Island

Those in town from July 1 to 3 will be able to take the tram and ride around Hong Kong Island completely for free.

Take this chance to explore neighbourhoods like Central and Sai Ying Pun, discover some of our favourite cafes in Sheung Wan, or grab a bite at the best restaurants in Causeway Bay.

Free rides on the Star Ferry

The public will be able to enjoy rides on several ferry routes for the whole day on July 1, with special vouchers to be distributed in advanced.

Free entry to museums and special exhibitions

West Kowloon Cultural District

For culture vultures looking for activities on July 1, there will be free admission to all general admission exhibitions at the M+ museum, along with all thematic exhibitions at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)

On July 1, visitors will be able to gain free access to all museums and art spaces managed by LCSD. Free screenings of the Shenzhou 13 - Space Travel sky show will also be available, but you'll first have to make a ballot application on URBTIX in order to secure two tickets covering one session.

Free use of sports facilities

A number of fee-charging facilities will be made free on July 1, ranging from badminton and basketball courts to bowling greens and archery ranges. Entry fees will also be waived for all public swimming pools (except for Wan Chai swimming pool), while specific crafts at water sports centres will be free to use by all.

Free admission to Hong Kong attractions

Nature lovers can head out to Yuen Long on July 1, where the public will be offered free admission to the Hong Kong Wetland Park. Meanwhile, members of the public can enter the Public Enclosures of both Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourses for free to catch the Hong Kong Reunification Raceday. For those looking to see the sights or immerse themselves in culture, iconic landmarks including the Peak Tram, Ngong Ping 360, Ocean Park Hong Kong, and Tai Kwun will also be providing special ticket offers and discounts for the holiday.

Dining, retail, and community offers

Foodies and shoppers have plenty to look forward to, as more than 1,000 restaurants and major shopping malls across the city will roll out exclusive dining, consumption, and parking promotions. Adding to the holiday bargains, members of the public can enjoy a 29 percent discount when purchasing selected poduce and seafood products via the Local Fresh online store, mobile app, or physical store from July 1 to 7.

There are also environmental incentives on offer, as the Environmental Protection Department will award double Green$ Points to anyone who drops off recycling at its community recycling network, Green@Community, on July 1.
