The annual Asia's 50 Best Bars awards streamed live on May 14 to announce its coveted 2020 list. The award ceremony was originally scheduled to commence at the Capitol Theatre in Singapore, but in light of the current situation, the committee decided to show the countdown online.
Hong Kong bars have often placed highly in these prestigious awards since they started back in 2016. This year, eight Hong Kong bars made the list. The Old Man Hong Kong drops from last year's top place to 2nd with Singapore's Jigger & Pony taking the top spot. But nevertheless, Agung Prabowo – the bar's co-owner – got this year's Industry Icon award, and his bar's sister venue in Singapore debuted at number 22 this year. Oaxaca-inspired cocktail bar, Coa, got third place, rising from last year's 12th spot, and the bar's co-founder and head mixologist Jay Khan was also hailed as Altos Bartenders' Bartender for 2020. Four Seasons Hong Kong's Caprice Bar made a debut on the annual list this year bagging the 34th spot. The other bars to make it to the list were Quinary (16th), The Wise King (18th), 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana (28th), The Pontiac (35th), and Island Shangri-La's Lobster Bar (44th).
