Wake up to the sunrise over Hyde Park at this centrally located high-end hotel
A stay at Sheraton on the Park offers everything you’d expect from this large, high-end hotel group: classic furnishings, dedicated staff and proximity to the city’s landmarks and shopping precincts. You’re right on Hyde Park’s doorstep and in walking distance of Circular Quay, the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Art Gallery of NSW on one side, with Haymarket and Darling Harbour on the other.
When you stay in one of the terrace suites at Sheraton on the Park, it’s hard to discuss anything other than the view; the sunrise over St Mary’s Cathedral is something out of a Jane Austen novel – a sight often overshadowed by our renowned harbour.
The sheer size of the deluxe terrace suite on Time Out’s visit was a game-changer. You could host a board meeting around the five-seater dining table and along the wrap around lounge, and probably hide another small army in the massive bedroom and walk-in wardrobe.
And the furnishings are fit for royalty: the king-size bed is shrouded in a cloud of oversized pillows and there’s movie star lighting around the vanity mirrors. Yet despite the recent refurbishment of the 558 rooms and suites, a few elements remain a little outdated. The patterned velvet throw isn’t to our tastes, the door to the second bathroom doesn’t close properly and other sliding doors and drawers catch in their runs.
However, the Sheraton Lounge upstairs is more modern as is the Contemporary Bar downstairs. There’s also a pool, jacuzzi and steam room (open 6am-9pm) on the top floor, plus gym facilities and a spa service.
While Sheraton on the Park might not win any contemporary design awards, it’s certainly maintained a distinguished level of service and classic charm.
