If you want your little ones to gain basic swimming skills before the summer season begins, but don't want to shell out big bucks for private lessons, you’re in luck—the NYC Parks Department is offering free “Learn to Swim” classes at more than 30 public pools throughout the five boroughs. They’ll be available for children ages 18 months to 17 years, and will be held on weekday mornings in three two-week sessions: July 9–23, July 25–August 8, and August 12–23. Online registration begins Friday, June 14, but registering doesn’t guarantee your child a spot; admission is conducted through a lottery system. Winners will be notified through email, and non-winners will be added to a waiting list; any remaining spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis through walk-in registration at the pool. Registration ends on June 28 for Session 1, July 15 for Session 2, and August 5 for Session 3. Register online at the Parks Department website.
