What is it? A cracking wine bar in Surry Hills by three Sydney hospo legends, with best-in-class snacks, vino and vibes.
Why we love it: Yes, Bar Copains is a wine bar, but it’s also a really bloody great place to eat, drink and lose track of time – so here we are. And considering getting a spot is about as difficult as remembering high-school algebra, you guys clearly froth on Bar Copains too. Headed up by chefs and best mates Morgan McGlone (co-founder of Belles Hot Chicken) and Nathan Sasi (ex-Nomad), along with Nathan’s wife Sali, Bar Copains means ‘friends’ in French – and after trying the golden nuggets of pig’s head topped with a tangy sauce gribiche, and the excellent King George whiting sandwich on squishy white bread, we reckon you’ll want to bring all your mates here.
Time Out tip: Can’t get into Bar Copains? Head up the road to sibling venue Bessie’s and Alma’s and try your luck. And if you do manage to book a spot, the afternoon – when the sun is golden and soft – is the best time to go.
