According to World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants, Double Bay fine-diner Margaret serves Australia's best steak

It seems as though every week there’s a new guide to “the best something”: best burgers, best coffee shops, best gelato scoops, best slices of pizza. And while we reckon we’ve got a pretty good handle on where to eat in Sydney, it’s always interesting to hear what the global experts have to say. Every year, a team of steak aficionados travel the world to narrow down what they believe to be the best grills on the planet, and last year, Neil Perry’s bougie Double Bay eatery Margaret took home silver. The full global list of World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants for 2026 is yet to drop, but as a teaser, they’ve revealed their guide to Australia’s best via their Insta.
Deep breath – because Sydney absolutely dominated.
Claiming the top spot in Australia is Margaret, the crown jewel of Neil Perry’s empire. Hot on its heels at number two is Surry Hills’ fire-fuelled favourite Firedoor, followed by Martin Place’s beloved Middle Eastern-inspired eatery Aalia (at number three). Seventh place went to Neil Perry’s Euro-leaning Grand Torino, and ninth place to CBD stunner The International.
The top 15 continues with smoky Argentinian darling Porteño at number ten, and steakhouse stalwart Rockpool Bar and Grill at number 11. At number 12 is underground glamazon The Gidley, followed by newcomers 20 Chapel (number 13) and Magma by Danny Karam (number 14), bringing fresh energy to the city’s steak scene.
Further down the list, we’ve got CBD icon The Cut Bar and Grill landing at number 19, Hubert claiming 20th place, and polished city diners Eleven Barrack (number 22) and Shell House (number 23). Number 25 went to Tuscan-inspired steak shrine Bistecca and 30th place to harbour-side haven Kingsleys.
