London is one of the most expensive cities on the planet, right? Well, yes and no.

Sure, the rent isn’t cheap, and the rest of the country loves to rib us about the price of our pints, but there are also many things you can do in the capital without forking out a single copper coin. So many, in fact, that whether you’re a lifelong Londoner or just got here last week, you can always find something new and exciting to do when you’re completely skint.

For starters, the majority of London’s biggest museums and galleries don’t charge an entrance fee, you can wander into the city’s numerous gorgeous parks without paying at the gate and there are cultural venues, like the BFI and the Southbank Centre, where you can hang out for hours without even buying a cup of tea.

It doesn’t matter if your pockets are filled with fifties or stuffed with mothballs, whether you’re skint or just tight-fisted, there’s plenty of free things to do in London. Here’s our guide to the  best of them.
