Parami

What is it? A Japanese-style café from former Chiswick and Aria chef Mika Kazato serving standout onigiri, earthy matcha and worth-a-visit muffins.
Why we love it: Anyone who has been to Japan knows that a daily onigiri from 7-Eleven is as much a guarantee as getting lost at the train station. And if you love onigiri, you'll be in heaven at Parami. The Japanese comfort food is made fresh daily, featuring koshihikari rice from Japan’s Toyama prefecture – the grains are still warm when you take a bite. There are enough flavours so you could try a new one each day for a while, but my picks are the classic tuna and mayo, and the soy-braised chicken mince with a seasoned egg featuring a golden, jammy yolk in the centre. The coffee beans are sourced from Single O, earthy matcha is served in beautiful, bowl-like ceramic cups, and sitting in the laneway feels like you’re somewhere in Tokyo. Plus, there are sweet and savoury rolls and warming soups.
Time Out tip: I’m not really a muffin person, but I couldn’t help myself here. I went for the matcha one with mochi, white chocolate, pistachio and strawberry – a sweet and gooey delight.
